The Bournemouth Observatory
This section will describe the initial Optical SETI system being assembled for the observatory in Bournemouth. The philosophy behind the design of this Amateur OSETI observatory is to keep the cost of the equipment relatively low. This is to prevent the photon-counting type of optical SETI, where the aim is to detect very short bursts of photons produced by Alien lasers, from becoming prohibitively expensive. The system will be based around a "modest" 8 inch. SCT. The USA-based COSETI Observatory presently employs a 10 inch. Meade LX200. For information about Photon Multiplier Tubes (PMTs) and their use for photon-counting, read the excellent handbook by Hamamatsu and visit their Web site. More to follow. . . .
