CCD Video
The COSETI Observatory uses a SBIG
ST-7 CCD Camera for locating targets for study. For a lower cost
approach, video CCD astronomy has much to commend it. Below is a list of
equipment that can be used to pull out stellar objects from the night sky.
Hardware
Cameras:
-
Supercircuits B&W PC164C
(0.0003 lux) c-mount
One of the most sensitive (unmodified) cameras available and very low cost.
Video Capture:
-
Belkin USB VideoBus II
F5U208
The small USB (1.1) powered Belkin video capture unit is
highly recommended as it will work with most or all of the video capture
programs that are Microsoft WDM video capture compliant. It is also
TWAIN compliant for still captures within other programs. It supports
capture at 320 x 240 pixels at 30 fps and 640 x 480 pixels at 15 fps. It
is also one of the lowest cost devices out there and may be purchased in the
US for less than $60. It works with AstroVideo and Vega (see below).
